Immunity of MP Sykas Lifted by Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has decided to lift the immunity of DISY MP for Limassol, Nikos Sykas. The MP's lawyer, Christos Pourgouridis, agreed with the legal aspect of the case, but stressed that immunity should not be used as protection from the common criminal code in personal and business matters, but should be limited to parliamentary duties. Mr. Pourgouridis expressed his concern regarding the fact that his client is an MP and a candidate in the upcoming elections. The lifting of immunity means that Mr. Sykas can be prosecuted criminally for acts not directly related to the exercise of his parliamentary duties.
