Zelensky to Visit Cyprus for Start of Cypriot EU Presidency

The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, held a telephone conversation with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, at the latter's initiative. The conversation took place on the day Cyprus assumed the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. President Zelensky congratulated President Christodoulides on taking office and informed him that he would attend the official inauguration ceremony in Nicosia on January 7th. They discussed the latest developments in Ukraine and international peacekeeping efforts. President Christodoulides reaffirmed Cyprus's steadfast support for the Ukrainian people, its sovereignty, independence, and free will, emphasizing the shared values and principles guiding both countries, given Cyprus's own experience with invasion and occupation. Cyprus pledged that support for Ukraine would be a key priority during its Presidency of the Council of the EU, promoting Ukraine's European path and the defense of international law.
