Erhiyurman: No Approval Needed from T/C Side for Unilateral Measures by G/C Side

T/C leader Tufan Erhiyurman stated that the approval of the T/C side is not required for unilateral measures taken by the G/C side. The statement followed reports of President Christodoulides' intention to take action in the areas of health and economy to benefit the T/C community. Erhiyurman mentioned he is unaware of the President's exact intentions but reiterated that his approval is not necessary for unilateral measures. Regarding President Christodoulides' economic package, Erhiyurman referred to a request for trade through the green line regulation, which he believes may be the focus of the President's plans. He emphasized that the T/C side has proposed changes to the regulation to facilitate trade. Furthermore, Erhiyurman expressed reservations about the President's proposal to waive VAT on goods transported from the free areas to the occupied territories, arguing that this would create unfair competition for producers in the occupied territories and be an unequal application of the green line regulation. He suggested a corresponding VAT exemption from both sides. In conclusion, Erhiyurman stated he is open to discussing measures that would benefit the T/C community, but stressed the need for balance and mutual respect in economic transactions between the two communities.
