Changes Coming to Planning and Cadastre Departments, Says Ioannou

Minister of Interior Konstantinos Ioannou announced that substantial changes will be implemented in the Planning and Cadastre Departments in 2026, aiming to create modern services, reduce bureaucracy and improve citizen service. These changes are part of a broader reform effort within the Ministry of Interior. Mr. Ioannou provided a brief review of the policies implemented in 2025, noting that it was a year of significant challenges but also substantial reforms. Specifically, he referred to the strengthening of housing policy, with more solutions for young people and couples, as well as the rationalization of the management of Turkish Cypriot properties, with an emphasis on transparency and meritocracy. In addition, the Ministry proceeded with the rapid licensing of developments, reducing delays and inconvenience for citizens and businesses, while the urban amnesty allowed thousands of citizens to issue property titles. The Minister stressed that these initiatives aim to improve the quality of life for citizens and strengthen economic development. Finally, Mr. Ioannou referred to Cyprus's assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, describing it as a significant responsibility and a great opportunity for the country to actively contribute to European decisions and strengthen its voice in Europe.
