Missing Persons: 20 Found, 12 Identified in 2025

In 2025, 20 individuals corresponding to missing persons were found, while 12 were identified from the official list of the CMP. Leonidas Pantelidis, representative of the Greek Cypriot side in the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP), emphasized the importance of the flow of information for more effective investigation of cases. The identifications are the result of excavations and require time to complete, with some expected in 2026. Mr. Pantelidis stated that this year's identifications relate to findings from 2024, but also older ones, which due to their difficulty, were identified now. Families are informed immediately with each identification. The excavations carried out this year were more than last year (approximately 130 compared to 105-106), with eight of them yielding findings. The CMP has sufficient staff for nine teams, but the excavations in progress are usually eight. In cases of urgent need, two teams can work on the same excavation. Mr. Pantelidis reiterated the need for more information from the public, as every detail can help locate burial sites.
