Anastasia Anthousi: Abolition of the Social Support Agency is Inevitable - Lack of Transparency Fuels Patronage

Former Deputy Minister of Welfare, Anastasia Anthousi, stated that the Social Support Agency has fulfilled its purpose and its abolition is now necessary. Her view is based on the change in socio-economic conditions since 2014, when the Agency was founded, with unemployment having decreased and sufficient funding available for the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare. Ms. Anthousi emphasized that the state must fully assume responsibility for social policies and that transparency and accountability are essential to avoid patronage. She stressed that a lack of transparency and bureaucracy reinforce these relationships.
