Sun Revelation: Drone That Fell Akrotiri in 'US U2 Shed'

A drone that exploded at a British airbase in Cyprus hit a hangar used by the US to store highly classified U-2 Dragon Lady spy planes, according to the British newspaper The Sun. Although the British Ministry of Defense claims the damage is “minimal”, photos show a large hole in the side of the hangar. The drone hit the hangar shortly after midnight on Sunday, causing a powerful explosion. The Ministry of Defense admitted the hangar was hit, but insisted the damage was limited and that equipment inside was not affected. The U-2 aircraft are used in long-term intelligence missions codenamed “Olive Harvest” and can fly at high altitudes, collecting electronic information and taking high-resolution photographs. US officials declined to comment on the incident, while British Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said the drone hit the airport runway. Photos show a crack 30 feet long and 20 feet wide in the hangar, suggesting the drone circled the base before hitting.
