Kurdish Forces Withdraw from Eastern Aleppo

Published January 17, 2026, 08:25

Kurdish forces announced their withdrawal from eastern Aleppo and their deployment to areas east of the Euphrates River. This decision comes after a request from friendly countries and mediators, as well as threats from the Syrian army of new strikes. Mazloum Abdi, the leader of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), announced the withdrawal via a post on the X platform, specifying the time and area of deployment of the forces. This move appears to be aimed at avoiding further clashes and protecting Kurdish forces.
