Supreme Court to Rule on Nikos Sykas' Immunity

Published January 15, 2026, 11:33

The Supreme Constitutional Court is set to decide on the lifting of MP Nikos Sykas' parliamentary immunity following an assault allegation. Sykas' lawyer, Christos Pourgouridis, stated that his client does not object to the lifting of immunity in order to investigate any potential offenses he may have committed. Mr. Pourgouridis emphasized that parliamentary immunity only covers actions related to the performance of parliamentary duties and not criminal offenses. He also expressed disagreement with the characterization of the complainant as a "victim" before the court's decision, believing it has become a "trend" to use this term. Nikos Sykas left the court before the announcement of the decision.
