Police Chief to Legal Committee: "The Police is One and Has a Chief to Lead it with Vision to 2030"

Police Chief Themistos Arnautis appeared before the Parliamentary Legal Committee after a symbolic protest by police unions outside the Parliament. He argued that the implementation of the new schedule is essential for a modern and effective Police force, emphasizing that the changes are being made for the benefit of the police officers and with a focus on efficiency and accountability. Mr. Arnautis stated that the adjustment of the schedule, harmonized with the public sector, was a request of the police officers themselves, while he blamed previous leadership for the delay in its implementation. At the same time, he stressed that he has repeatedly sought dialogue with the unions, but they refuse to participate in joint consultations. With emphasis, he stated: "The Police is one and has a Chief to lead it with vision to 2030," underlining his commitment to his decision. The 'ISOTITA' (Equality) Union, for its part, expressed its willingness to withdraw any appeal to the Administrative Court, provided that dialogue progresses.
