Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Share Increases in 2025

The Statistical Service of Cyprus has released data on motor vehicle registrations for 2025, showing a continued increase in the share of electric and hybrid vehicles. The share of electric vehicles rose to 4.7% from 4.0% in 2024, while that of hybrids increased to 44.3% from 37.1%. Conversely, a decrease was observed in the shares of petrol (42.0% from 48.6%) and diesel (8.9% from 10.3%) vehicles. Overall, vehicle registrations increased by 5.8% in 2025, reaching 52,508, with passenger car registrations increasing by 6.2% to 40,778. Of these, 35.9% were new and 64.1% were used, while rental cars increased significantly by 32.4%. Furthermore, registrations of buses and goods vehicles increased, while registrations of mopeds under 50cc decreased. Registrations of motorcycles over 50cc increased by 14.5%. Regarding manufacturers, Japan holds the largest share (44.1%), followed by Germany (13.0%), France (7.0%), the United Kingdom (6.0%), and South Korea (3.9%). White remains the most popular color (34.4%), followed by grey and black. In December 2025, an annual increase of 27.1% was observed in vehicle registrations.
