Increased Infections and Pressure on Cyprus Hospitals Due to Low Temperatures

An increase in seasonal virus infections, combined with low temperatures and holiday gatherings, is putting pressure on the Accident and Emergency (A&E) departments of public hospitals in Cyprus. Spokesperson for the Cyprus Public Health Insurance Organisation (OKYPY), Charalambos Charilaou, stated that hospitals are prepared to manage the increase in cases, operating Rapid Patient Flow Clinics for non-urgent cases. There is a rise in cases of influenza A, with hospitalizations mainly among individuals with comorbidities and elderly people with low immune systems. OKYPY recommends adhering to personal hygiene measures, such as limiting movement, avoiding gatherings, and protecting vulnerable groups.
