Stricter Penalties for Firework Use

A new law regarding fireworks introduces stricter penalties for illegal use and extends responsibility to the owners of the premises where they are used. According to the chairman of the parliamentary environment committee, Charalambos Theopemptou, the new legislation separates the responsibilities between the Department of Mines and Quarries and the Police. The former is responsible for issuing permits for firework use until noon, while the latter is responsible for supervision. The fine for illegal use has increased significantly, and responsibility also extends to the property owner. For example, in the event of illegal firework use at a wedding, a fine will be imposed on both the couple and the venue owner. Mr. Theopemptou emphasized the need to inform citizens about the new provisions.
