Veto and Security Council Expansion at the Forefront of France's 2026 Agenda

France has announced its agenda for 2026, focusing on United Nations reform and strengthening multilateralism. The French Ambassador to the UN, Jérôme Bonafon, emphasized the importance of moving from rhetoric to action and the need for effectiveness within the Organization. France will promote the implementation of 'Chapters 2 and 3' of the reform, which concern the evaluation of UN mandates and the overall reorganization of the system. In addition, France will seek to address the deterioration of the international environment and the increase in violence, promoting multilateralism as a solution. Police presence will be reinforced and targeted checks will be carried out.
