Why Germany Won't Send Aid

There were consultations between Cyprus and Germany regarding the dispatch of military assistance to the island, however it appeared that the needs of Cyprus are covered in other ways, sources reported on Wednesday, commenting on the statement by the German Government Spokesman, Steffen Hebestreit, that the German government is not currently planning military support for Cyprus. Sources said that there were consultations between Cyprus and Germany immediately after the drone interception incident at Akrotiri British Base to strengthen Cyprus's deterrent power, adding that on the one hand, Cyprus's needs seem to be met in other ways and with the help of other countries, and on the other hand, Germany cannot immediately provide what Cyprus is requesting on an operational level. For the dispatch of troops outside Germany, they pointed out, approval must be obtained from the German legislative bodies, clarifying that this is allowed only when it comes to decisions of NATO and the UN Security Council. At the same time, they noted that tomorrow the Italian Parliament will discuss the type of assistance it intends to send to Cyprus.
