No New Foot-and-Mouth Disease Cases - Culling Continues

No new cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been recorded in Cyprus, according to the spokesperson of the Veterinary Services. Sampling and tracing continue on a nationwide basis. The second dose of vaccine has begun for cattle and sheep, while the first dose has been completed in a large percentage of animals. The culling of animals in small units in Livadia and Dali is ongoing or has been completed. The number of culled sheep and goats has reached 20,000 and is expected to increase, while for cattle it is around 1200. The situation is considered calm and public cooperation is satisfactory, despite some previous reactions. Cyprus is obliged to record the extent of the problem in order to receive assistance from the European Union.
