Akamas National Park Faces Neglect and Environmental Degradation, Activists Claim

The environmental intervention group 'Friends of Akamas' is reporting scenes of abandonment and environmental degradation in the Akamas Peninsula, due to the endless delay in the redesign of the road network. They point to the existence of unfinished constructions, such as 'unnecessary culvert-type bridges' that block streams, and the deterioration of metal reinforcements. They attribute the situation to the lack of political will for holistic ecosystem management and the absence of scientifically sound redesign. Furthermore, they express regret over the abandonment of the vision to declare the area a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
