University of Cyprus Elections Halted Amid Vote-Rigging Allegations and Violence

The elections at the University of Cyprus were halted after allegations of vote-rigging. The counting of votes did not take place and the ballot boxes were sealed, while reports speak of incidents of violence between students. The process was interrupted when representatives of the Progressive KΦ accused supporters of the Protοponia of attempting to cast more than one ballot in the ballot boxes. Strong reactions followed, and according to reports, there were also incidents of violence. The Progressive KΦ, ELAM Student Front, Anagenesis and Agonas factions agreed to appeal to the courts, while Protοponia requested consultation. The ballot boxes are guarded by representatives of the factions and are expected to be examined legally.
