Election of Hierarchs to be Exclusive to Holy Synod – People Will Only Vote for Archbishop

The Church of Cyprus is considering changes to the process of electing hierarchs. According to a proposal by Archbishop Georgios, the faithful will only participate in the election of the new Archbishop, while the election of Bishops and Metropolitans will be exclusively carried out by the Holy Synod. While this proposal may spark debate, it appears to be gaining traction among some members of the Holy Synod, as participation in previous elections by the faithful has been low. The Archbishop assures that he will not impose the proposal, but will put it to discussion with the Synod members.
