ECB to Expedite Bank Capital Assessments

The European Central Bank (ECB) has announced improvements to the way it assesses bank capital, aiming to increase efficiency and focus on more complex cases. From January 2026, the approval time for standardized capital and securitization transactions will be reduced from three months to two weeks. This will allow banks to respond more quickly to changes, such as share buybacks or reductions in capital requirements. However, the standard assessment process, which involves detailed analysis, will continue to apply to non-standardized operations. The ECB is setting specific conditions for fast-track approval, such as low risk and adequate capital adequacy.
