Orban Remains Firm on Veto for Ukraine at EU Summit

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is expected to continue blocking the €90 billion loan to Ukraine until oil flow is restored through the Druzhba pipeline. Upon his arrival at the European Council, Orbán stated that Hungary is ready to support Ukraine only when it receives its oil, which he claims is being blocked. The delay in disbursing the loan, following the European Council's decision in December, has led to a sharp confrontation between Hungary and Ukraine over the operation of the Druzhba pipeline. Other leaders accused Orbán of exploiting the situation ahead of the Hungarian elections on April 12. EU High Representative, Kajsa Kalas, stressed the importance of supporting Ukraine, linking the war in Ukraine to the war in the Middle East and emphasizing that Russia is benefiting from the situation. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo criticized Orbán's stance, accusing him of violating the consensus reached in December.
