Arson Suspected in Archimanndrita Fires, Rainfall Prevents Major Damage

The Forestry Department attributes the scattered fires in Archimanndrita to arson, however, early rainfall and high humidity helped to contain them. The fires broke out around 6:00 PM on Thursday in wild vegetation, but did not cause significant damage as only dry grasses were burned. The Fire Service was unable to operate due to difficult access, resulting in the Forestry Department taking over the extinguishing efforts. The Director of the Forestry Department, Savvas Iezekiel, expressed his regret for the irresponsible actions that endanger the environment and public safety, as five different fire hotspots were identified in the area.
