Ustel Reiterates Positions on Cyprus Issue, Criticizes UN Interpretation

Unal Ustel, President of the KEE and self-proclaimed 'Prime Minister' of the Turkish Cypriots, reiterated his positions on the Cyprus issue, emphasizing that the sovereign equality of the 'Turkish Cypriot people' cannot be undermined by 'selective interpretations of the UN'. He argues that the issue of federation is closed and proposes a solution based on two sovereign states. Ustel criticized President Christodoulides' statement regarding reference to UN resolutions, considering it an admission that no other solution is acceptable except for federation. Simultaneously, former Turkish Cypriot negotiator Erhan Ercin, in an interview, described Cyprus's accession to the Schengen zone as a 'major mistake' and urged the Turkish Cypriot side to pursue a proactive policy in Europe.
