Erhurman Criticizes 'South' Over Foot-and-Mouth Disease, Accuses of Political Motives

Tufan Erhurman refers to the operation of the bicommunal Veterinary Committee, emphasizing the need for uninterrupted information exchange regarding foot-and-mouth disease, given that the Greek Cypriot side is facing greater problems. He highlights that the committee has been meeting regularly since November, after the “presidential elections,” and has reached an agreement to facilitate the passage of pets, which was however cancelled by the “authorities of the south” citing EU law. Erhurman expresses his hope for a more constructive approach from the Greek Cypriot side, with an emphasis on the competence of the members of the Technical Committees, regular updates, and avoiding political motives. He believes that cooperation is essential to address common problems, such as foot-and-mouth disease, and that political motives should give way for the good of the island. He states that the Turkish Cypriot side immediately informed the EU, the UN, and the KD authorities about the issue, while providing vaccines to the Greek Cypriot side.
