Controlled Burning Applied on the Outskirts of Machairas Forest [VIDEO]

The Forestry Department successfully implemented controlled burning on the outskirts of the Machairas Forest, in the “Maratheftis” area, for the second consecutive year. This action is part of the SEMEDFIRE project, co-funded by the “Horizon Europe” program, and aims to train and implement fire prevention protocols. The controlled burn was carried out in a selected zone, under strict protocols and suitable weather conditions, with the aim of reducing fuel load and limiting the risk of large wildfires. This practice is internationally recognized and contributes to the protection of human lives, property, and the natural environment, while enhancing biodiversity. The Forestry Department will continue to apply the method in all forest districts until the end of April.
