Greenland in the Shop Window of 'Trump & Co'

Donald Trump, returning to the White House, has expressed his desire to purchase Greenland, viewing it as a strategic area with significant wealth in rare earths and critical minerals. His slogan “Make Greenland Great Again” indicates his intention to exploit the region to strengthen American dominance and independence from China. Greenland, due to its geographical location, is at the center of interest for the new Arctic shipping routes. Trump is concerned about Russia's militarization of the Arctic and China's economic penetration, considering a weak Greenland as a “gateway” for the authoritarian axis. He is even offering financial incentives to the residents of Greenland to persuade them to sell. However, the attempt to buy Greenland faces serious obstacles, as the inhabitants and Denmark, to which the region belongs, are categorically opposed. A unilateral move by the United States would violate international law and endanger the cohesion of NATO. Trump warns that he will pursue the purchase of Greenland either in an “easy” way (buyout) or in a “difficult” way (use of force), suggesting a possible escalation of tensions in the region.
