The article examines the growing influence of Social Media on politics and the exercise of political power. It points out that the engagement of politicians with Social Media has become almost obsessive and unconsidered, affecting the quality of the political message and the effectiveness of governance. The author analyzes how political communication has evolved in parallel with the emergence of new media, from print to television and Social Media. It argues that the excessive focus on Social Media leads to a leveling of politics, where trivial events receive the same prominence as important political actions. Furthermore, the algorithm of Social Media imposes an “inflation” of posts, diverting attention from substantial political activities and turning politicians into competitors for likes and popularity.
