History of Cypriot Cricket Celebrated with Book Launch

The book “Oranges on the Outfield: A History of Cricket in Cyprus”, documenting the history and evolution of cricket in Cyprus, was presented at the Olympic Stadium. The event coincided with the opening night of the ICC Men’s T20 2026 World Cup. The book, written by Andrew Pepper, highlights cricket's contribution to Cypriot sport and its international presence. The Cyprus Olympic Committee (COC) was represented by Evthymios Polydorou, who emphasized the COC's support for the Cyprus Cricket Federation and the role of sport in social cohesion. The President of the Cyprus Cricket Federation, Muhammad Husain, spoke about the progress of the sport and the importance of recording its history. The event also included watching the opening match of the World Cup between the United States and India. Also present was the Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Cyprus, Daniel Mangis, who linked the event to the inclusion of cricket in the Olympic program of the 2028 Los Angeles Games. The COC congratulates the Cyprus Cricket Federation for its activities and the promotion of Olympic values.
