President: Cyprus Solution is Key to Addressing Property Encroachments

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, stated that the solution to the illegal occupation of properties in the occupied territories lies in the resolution of the Cyprus issue, responding to questions regarding statements made by Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman. The President called on Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot side to return to the negotiating table, emphasizing that the government does not seek threatening actions but desires to address the illegalities that have lasted for 51 years. In parallel, the President condemned an incident of harassment of Greek Cypriot farmers in the dead zone by the occupying forces, characterizing it as unacceptable. He informed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately contacted the farmer and is in contact with the United Nations and the Cyprus Police regarding the matter. Mr. Christodoulides mentioned that he will raise this issue during the next meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader, with the aim of creating a suitable environment for the resumption of talks. He stressed that the actions of the occupying army are "piratical" and contrary to efforts to avoid escalating tensions. The President's statement follows his visit to the Filoxenia Conference Centre in Nicosia, which will host events of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU.
