Man Utd Agrees Deal for ‘The Crown’-Style TV Series

Manchester United has reached an agreement with North American production company Lionsgate to create a dramatized narrative of the club's history, athletic website The Athletic reports. The production is in the early stages of development and has not yet been sold to a streaming platform. The deal provides for a guaranteed amount of millions of pounds to be paid to United if the series is produced and sold, as well as future revenue sharing. British screenwriter Jed Mercurio, known for series such as 'Bodyguard' and 'Line of Duty', has expressed interest in the project. The series is expected to cover significant moments in United's history, such as the Munich air disaster of 1958 and the European Cup victory in 1968. The success of the series will depend on the production's ability to attract both die-hard fans and a wider audience. Manchester United has already collaborated with Amazon Prime Video on a three-part documentary series, but in that case there was no direct financial benefit to the club.
