Cyprus Assumes EU Presidency

Cyprus today assumed the presidency of the European Union for approximately six months. The inauguration ceremony will take place on January 7th with an artistic performance highlighting the history and culture of Cyprus as an integral part of European culture. Cyprus is the southeasternmost and only divided member state of the EU. This is the second time Cyprus has held the EU presidency, following its first term in 2012. The government of President Christodoulides has prioritized strengthening Europe's autonomy, promoting European integration, and building partnerships from a position of strength. The five key pillars of the presidency focus on security, defense, competitiveness, outward orientation, values, and a long-term budget. The goal is to create a Europe of peace, security, prosperity, and cooperation. The Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, described the assumption of the presidency as a key political act and a moment of pride for Cyprus, emphasizing the national mission and strategic opportunity it presents for the country.
