BYD Breaks Down Barriers to Widespread EV Adoption with Blade Battery 2.0 and FLASH Charging Technologies

BYD, the world's leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles, is set to break down the last barriers to widespread EV adoption with its self-developed FLASH Charging technology – delivering up to 1,500 kW through a single charging cable – and the second generation of its iconic Blade Battery. Combined, the two new technologies offer exceptionally high charging speeds, regardless of environmental conditions. Charging from 10% to 70% is completed in just five minutes, and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes. Even at -30°C – where charging typically slows significantly – the FLASH Charger can charge the Blade Battery 2.0 from 20% to 97% in just 12 minutes. At the same time, the Blade Battery itself offers greater range on a single charge, with over 1,000 km (Chinese CLTC test cycle) now achievable thanks to a 5% increase in energy density. The new technologies are the result of intensive development by BYD, following extensive research into the factors that continue to deter consumers from switching to all-electric vehicles. It is a fact that most buyers of internal combustion engine vehicles do not pay much attention to the size of the fuel tank. However, despite the significant increase in the penetration of electric vehicles in the largest new car markets worldwide, many prospective EV buyers who focus heavily on battery capacity and range pay a significantly higher price for a few extra kilometers. BYD Chairman and CEO Wang Chuanfu emphasized in a presentation in China that the industry must address the ongoing challenges of slow charging speeds and reduced performance at low temperatures in order to overcome all consumer reservations about switching to electric mobility. BLADE BATTERY 2.0: FASTER CHARGING, MORE RANGE, ADDED SAFETY The second generation of BYD's Blade battery, the result of six years of intensive research, is the cornerstone of the latest innovations in FLASH Charging technology.
