Strong 4.9 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Mount Athos – Felt in Thessaloniki and Sporades
A strong 4.9 magnitude earthquake struck near Mount Athos on Wednesday evening, March 25th. The epicenter of the earthquake was located 11 kilometers northwest of Karyes, with a focal depth of 10.6 kilometers. The earthquake was felt in Thessaloniki and the Sporades islands. Two smaller aftershocks, measuring 3 and 3.3 on the Richter scale, followed shortly after 9:20 PM, and a further 3.2 magnitude earthquake occurred at 9:33 PM. Authorities have not yet reported any injuries or damage.
