Ioannidis: Barriers to Uncontrolled Illegal Immigration - No Tolerance for Lawlessness

The Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection welcomed and congratulated the Bar Association of Nicosia for organizing a seminar on the Migration Issue and the Jurisdiction of the Court of International Protection. The Deputy Minister, Dr. Nikolas A. Ioannidis, presented the upcoming changes in asylum and migration management due to the new European Pact on Migration and Asylum, and the new Refugee Law being discussed in Parliament. The Deputy Minister highlighted the reforms being promoted at the national level, such as border screening, independent monitoring of fundamental rights, and new parameters of solidarity in Europe. He emphasized the need to adapt to the new procedures and their correct implementation, with respect for human rights. The President of the Administrative Court of International Protection, Margarita Papantoniou, presented issues of the Court's jurisdiction and the importance of effective judicial protection for asylum seekers. The seminar was well-attended and generated significant interest from the legal community. The Deputy Minister answered questions from lawyers, emphasizing the effort to rationalize, simplify, and digitize legal migration procedures. He also assured that the government has put barriers to uncontrolled illegal immigration and will not tolerate situations of lawlessness.
