The Cyprus Police is advancing a comprehensive upgrade plan with a 2030 horizon, focusing on improving operational capabilities, better utilizing human resources, and technological advancements. This includes the creation of a modern coordination center capable of efficiently managing emergency calls through the 112 number. Simultaneously, the establishment of a Directorate for Combating Organized Crime is being promoted, along with the development of information policing with the assistance of Europol, which will provide high-level expertise in strategic and operational analysis. The Chief of Police, Themistos Arnautis, emphasized the need for a modern and flexible police force capable of enhancing citizen safety. He noted that the existing policing model is outdated, based on structures retained from the colonial era. The contract for the creation of the coordination center is in its final stages, while the tender for the development of information policing is already underway. Technological upgrades are also a priority, with an emphasis on enhancing communication and addressing cyberattacks, in collaboration with the Deputy Ministry of Innovation. Mr. Arnautis stated that the Police aims to improve its responsiveness to citizens' needs, providing immediate and effective assistance when required. Cooperation with Europol is expected to significantly contribute to strengthening the operational capacity of the Cyprus Police and combating organized crime.
