China Unveils World’s Longest Urban Escalator – As Tall as an 80-Story Skyscraper, Reaching the Top of a Mountain City

In the mountain city of Chongqing, China, the Wushan Goddess, the world’s longest urban escalator, has been inaugurated, measuring 905 meters in length and 242 meters in height. The escalator significantly reduces commute times for residents, replacing a tiring one-hour climb on steep mountain roads with a quick and comfortable ride of just a few minutes. This construction is part of a trend in China to build “stairs to the clouds” in mountainous areas, aiming to improve accessibility and the quality of life for residents. Similar projects have been built in other provinces, such as Jiangxi, where an escalator of 1,236 meters in length replaces a two-hour hike with just a 10-minute ascent.
