Sentenced to 13 and 7 Years for Drug Trafficking

Two men, aged 50 and 38, were sentenced to 13 and 7 years in prison respectively by the Paphos Criminal Court for drug trafficking. The case involved the seizure of over 34 kilograms of cannabis during a coordinated operation by the YKAN (Cyprus Drug and Anti-Narcotics Unit) in December 2024. According to the investigation, the YKAN stopped a car driven by a 37-year-old on the Paphos-Limassol highway, where approximately 4 kilograms of cannabis were found. Subsequently, following a court warrant, a search was conducted at a 48-year-old's property in a rural area of Paphos, where an additional amount of cannabis, approximately 29 kilograms, as well as a precision scale, were discovered and confiscated. During the investigation, three individuals, aged 37, 48, and 33, were arrested. The court found the first two defendants guilty, imposing the aforementioned prison sentences. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of the YKAN to combat drug trafficking in Cyprus.
