AKEL Accuses President of Cover-Up Attempt

AKEL is strongly responding to the leaked video case, harshly criticizing the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides. The party accuses the President of attempting to cover up a situation of institutional entanglement and corruption, instead of taking responsibility and calling for an investigation. In its announcement, AKEL points out that the evidence emerging from the video is clear and before everyone, but the President and his associates pretend not to see it. The party specifically mentions statements by the President's Chief of Staff and a close associate of his that were recorded in the video. AKEL expresses concern that the Christodoulides government, with its practices of entanglement and corruption, is leaving Cyprus exposed to external threats, such as a possible hybrid war due to the Cyprus Presidency in the EU. The party emphasizes that it will not let the issue be forgotten and will continue to push for full transparency and accountability. Calls have already been made to the Attorney General, the Anti-Corruption Authority, and the prosecution authorities to act immediately and impartially. AKEL has also submitted a bill to abolish the Fund managed by the President's wife and has registered the issue for discussion in the Institutions Committee.
