CBC: Exchange of Lev Banknotes for Euros Ahead of Bulgaria's Eurozone Entry

The Central Bank of Cyprus is participating in a joint initiative with the national central banks of the Eurozone to exchange Bulgarian lev banknotes for euros free of charge, ahead of Bulgaria's accession to the Eurozone on January 1, 2026. The exchange will take place from January 2 to March 2, 2026, at an exchange rate of 1 euro = 1.95583 lev. The exchange limit is 2,000 lev per person and per transaction daily, with identification required. Lev coins will not be exchanged. Specific lev banknotes (5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 lev of specific issue years) are eligible for exchange, with service provided daily, Monday to Friday, from 08:30 to 13:30.
