Traffic Congestion in Troodos Mountains, Vehicle Breakdown Causes Delays

Published January 18, 2026, 09:30

Heavy traffic is being experienced in the Troodos region due to a large number of visitors. Traffic flow towards the summit is further hampered by a vehicle breakdown caused by a mechanical fault. Additionally, dense fog is present at the summit, reducing visibility and increasing the risk of accidents. Drivers in the area are urged to exercise extreme caution, reduce their speed, and comply with the instructions of on-duty police officers. Police have taken measures to manage traffic and prevent accidents, but the situation remains challenging due to the high volume of vehicles and adverse weather conditions. The vehicle breakdown has caused queues of several kilometers, as traffic has been disrupted at one point on the road. Authorities are trying to remove the vehicle as soon as possible to restore normal traffic flow. Drivers are asked to be patient and avoid unnecessary travel in the area. Due to the increased traffic volume, police have closed some roads in the capital to facilitate the Marathon. Drivers are advised to be informed about traffic arrangements and choose alternative routes if possible.
