Protection Racket Behind Bloody Larcana Clash, €7,000 Demanded, 48-Year-Old Leader

A bloody clash erupted in Larnaca, centered around a protection racket that was extorting a car rental businessman. The businessman reported that he was initially asked for €7,000 and then €1,000 per month for 'protection'. When he refused to pay, he was attacked by members of the racket. The clash escalated into a violent brawl with crowbars, axes, and clubs, and two shots were fired into the air during the incident. The leader of the racket, a 48-year-old Cypriot, was seriously injured and is hospitalized under guard. The 48-year-old and three other individuals, a Syrian, a Palestinian, and a Jordanian, have been arrested. The Police responded immediately to the report, but the members of the racket had already disappeared. Cartridge casings and an abandoned car were found at the scene of the clash. The area of Larnaca is in turmoil, as the clash took place in a crowded area, in front of the eyes of dozens of citizens. The investigators of the Larnaca TAE are continuing their investigations to fully solve the case and identify any other involved parties. The Police has increased its presence in the area and is conducting continuous patrols to prevent further incidents.
