Larnaca: Internal Checks of Shelters Conducted by Civil Defence

The Civil Defence in Larnaca is conducting internal checks of shelters in the city and province, following initial external inspections. The aim is to identify problems and deficiencies, such as the use of shelters as storage spaces, which limits their immediate availability in case of emergency. There are a total of 138 public, communal and private shelters in Larnaca, and 39 in Aradippou. The Municipality of Aradippou is looking for new spaces to be included in the shelter network. The checks focus on accessibility, cleanliness and the use of the shelters. The Civil Defence emphasizes that shelters are intended for temporary protection, not for long-term stay. Finally, the need for a possible revision of the legislation to provide incentives to shelter owners is recognized, while citizens are urged to visit the Civil Defence website for instructions.
