Libya: 53 Migrants Dead or Missing After Boat Capsizes

Fifty-three migrants, including two babies, have died or are missing after a rubber boat capsized off the coast of Libya. The boat, carrying 55 people, overturned north of Zuwara on February 6th. Only two Nigerian women were rescued, while the rest are missing. According to the survivors' testimonies, the boat departed from Al Zawiya, Libya, and capsized due to water ingress. The incident adds to the tragic number of migrants losing their lives in the central Mediterranean, with over 1,300 reported missing in 2025 and at least 484 dead or missing on this route in 2026.
