An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot and wounded a Venezuelan national in the leg in Minneapolis, sparking outrage in the local community. The incident occurred during an arrest operation, where the migrant allegedly resisted. The Minneapolis city authorities condemned the incident and called for the immediate withdrawal of ICE from the city and the state of Minnesota. The statement was made via the X platform and acknowledged the prevailing anger. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed the shooting, stating that the agent fired in self-defense after being attacked by the migrant and two other individuals who emerged from a nearby apartment, armed with a snow shovel and a broom. The authorities in Minneapolis and Minnesota have repeatedly expressed their objections to the actions of ICE, especially regarding door-to-door investigations conducted by officers, often armed and masked. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz denounced the “chaos” and “trauma” caused by ICE in the community.
