Von der Leyen: We Will Navigate Troubled Political Waters Together with Cyprus

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated that the EU and Cyprus will work together to address challenges in "troubled political waters," emphasizing Cyprus's unique expertise in dialogue and diplomacy. The statement was made after a meeting with the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, at the new port of Limassol, where the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU were discussed, including migration, climate change, and security in the Eastern Mediterranean. President Christodoulides expressed Cyprus's readiness for full integration into the Schengen Area and informed Ms. von der Leyen about efforts to restart negotiations on the Cyprus issue. The establishment of a Firefighting Hub in Cyprus, a priority for the EU, and the Action Plan for the Mediterranean were also discussed.
