Massive Operation in Turkey: 357 Arrests Targeting Islamic State

Turkish law enforcement authorities have arrested 357 people in a large-scale operation conducted across 21 provinces of Turkey, as part of their efforts to combat the Islamic State (IS). The operation was carried out following intelligence reports regarding potential IS attacks during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced the arrests via X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing that Turkey will not allow anyone to “bring this country to its knees” through terrorism. The operation comes after the death of three police officers in a shootout with IS members in Yalova province. Turkey has increased its operations against IS as the organization attempts to regroup. The country has previously been at the center of IS attacks, with tragic consequences, and served as a major transit point for foreign fighters participating in the war in Syria.
