France to Assist with Ship Escort in Strait of Hormuz 'Once Situation Calms'

France is ready to help escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz, but only when the situation 'calms down,' President Emmanuel Macron said Tuesday. “We are not part of the conflict and as such France will never take part in operations aimed at opening or liberating the Strait of Hormuz in the current context,” Macron said after a request from US President Donald Trump to allies to help secure the waterway which Iran has effectively closed in response to US-Israeli attacks. “However, we are convinced that once the situation calms down… we are ready, along with other nations, to take responsibility for an escort system,” he said.
