Merz on Cypriot Presidency: "Together we will work for a strong European economy"

The Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, expressed his expectation for cooperation with Cyprus, which has taken over the Presidency of the Council of the EU from January 1, 2026. Mr. Merz stated that they will work together for a strong European economy, enhancing competitiveness and reducing bureaucracy. The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, also wished the Cypriot Presidency well in Greek. Cyprus's assumption of the Presidency marks a new chapter for the European Union.
