Farmers to Protest with Tractors Outside KOAP Headquarters

Farmers in Cyprus are planning a dynamic protest with tractors outside the headquarters of the Cyprus Agricultural Payments Organisation (KOAP) in Nicosia on Monday, February 16th. The mobilization is organized by the Pan-Cypriot Cereal Producers Organisation and other agricultural organisations, with the aim of highlighting the serious problems faced by farmers and their immediate resolution. The farmers are protesting the delay in the payment of subsidies (per hectare and special measures), despite KOAP's assurances that they would be paid by December. In addition, they report unjustified deductions in the amounts already paid to some farmers. The announcement points out that despite the efforts of the competent state services to resolve the problem, KOAP is constantly creating obstacles and making demands that cannot be implemented in practice, delaying the payment of subsidies. Farmers recognise the problems caused by the Turkish occupation and the fragmentation of land, but believe that KOAP is not responding to their needs. The organisers are calling on all farmers to participate in the tractor mobilisation, demanding immediate and substantial solutions to the problems affecting the agricultural sector. The protest is scheduled for 11:30 am and farmers aim to raise public awareness and pressure the authorities to resolve their problems.
