Second Appeal by Tychikos Rejected by Ecumenical Patriarchate

The Ecumenical Patriarchate has rejected a second appeal by Bishop Tychikos, which was directed against the decision of the Holy Synod of the Church of Cyprus to suspend him. This decision marks the final rejection of Tychikos' arguments and the validation of the Synod's decision. The Press Spokesman of the Holy Archbishopric of Cyprus, Christakis Eustathiou, stated that the Holy Synod does not intend to deal further with Tychikos' moves and is focusing on completing the restructuring of the statute and promoting the procedures for the election of a new Metropolitan of Paphos. Tychikos had submitted a new appeal at the end of January, challenging the initial decision of the Holy Synod. However, the Church of Cyprus had already commented that this action was contradictory, given that Tychikos had not accepted the initial decision of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and had tried to challenge it through the courts. The rejection of the second appeal marks the end of a long and tense dispute, and leaves open the question of how Tychikos will proceed in the future.
